What’s up with the Wedding Website? | Tips, Tricks, & What to Include
Hello Gorgeous!
Wedding Websites have definitely become the norm with weddings in the past few years… specifically since COVID19 graced us with its lovely presence (note the sarcasm here). These Wedding Websites certainly can be a fun way to post your engagement photos, sing the praises of your fabulous wedding party, and even tell folks your love story, but they also have a real purpose and can help with communication with your guests. Luckily, wedding guests, as a general rule, understand that this information should be found on the Wedding Website.
So what else do you need to consider for your site? Let’s go through it!
One of the best things to put on your Wedding Website is your registry information! Did you know that it is not good etiquette to add registry information to any invitation? That becomes an issue because well, even though you don’t want to ‘ask’ for a gift, we all know why showers, etc. are thrown for the couple… and how are the people going to know what to get?! The correct way to do this is to direct anyone who asks to the Wedding Website. It is perfectly acceptable to have website information included on your shower invitations and even as a part of your wedding invitation suite. Some of the Wedding Website platforms have a tab that shows links to your registries, and others have the items listed right there on the wedding website. The latter is my personal favorite because it makes it just that much easier for your guests!
The next biggest thing to include on your Wedding Website is information about the hotels in the area. First, you will need to include which hotels, if any, that you have secured a wedding block. This should include the address, phone number, distance from the venue, and any block specific information. You can also include hotel recommendations to this list. Maybe include a few boutique downtown options for the guests who will travel for your wedding and double the trip as a vacation! Does your city have some iconic properties that guests might be interested in? Include those as well! For us in Memphis, that is definitely the Peabody Hotel! Remember this, whether you provide a hotel block or not, be prepared for guests to simply do what they want when it comes to their accommodations. If you block at a Hilton property, for example, and the guest has Marriott points, they will almost always opt for the Marriott. This is perfectly fine. They are still traveling to be with you on your big day!
IF you choose to offer transportation for your guests to and from the venues, your Wedding Website is a great place for this information! You will need to include the type of vehicle they should expect, the pickup/drop off locations, and all relevant times for their consideration. Some of your guests will choose to transport themselves, but don’t you worry about that. :) You did your job by letting them know its availability via the Wedding Website!
If you are wanting a certain vibe at your wedding, many times having a dress code is a great way to do it. Enforcing a dress code is a whole different conversation, but the first step is ample communication about these expectations. Include it in your wedding invitation suite, for sure, but also have a significant section of your Wedding Website with this information! This points it out clearly for your guests. If you are using a suit rental site, like GenTux, and want to provide options for rentals for your guests, you would include that link there. The other thing you can put on your attire section of the Wedding Website is any culture-specific attire options. For example, if you are having a South Asian Wedding and want your American guests to dress the part, help them out by giving links and options for the clothing piece!
Have you decided not to invite kiddos to your wedding? The Wedding Website is a great way to double down on communicating that to your guests. Ask your CWP about some phrasing to help deliver this expectation kindly to your guests. Also, if you choose to provide an event babysitting service, this is where you would let the parents know that is an option, include permission slips, and provide sitter information. Remember to be consistent when enforcing this policy throughout the event to avoid hurt feelings, etc.
There are so many options for Wedding Websites, and though most of them are basically the same, there are a few differences. First, if you also ordered your invitation suite from one of these platforms, they likely have a similar design for the website to match. This is a big plus because consistency is key for the caliber of event that is a wedding. Take a few moments and look through the features to make sure the platform you pick is right for you.
